Beeld SAs most influential daily and City Press second most influential newspaper overall
18 May 2014
Beeld and City Press are amongst the most influential publications in agenda setting media, according to the recently released Media Tenor SA results. These results are based on analysis of 1774 quotes from 47 opinion-leading media for the first quarter of 2014.
Beeld held onto its position as the most influential daily print medium, despite a more competitive positioning by The New Age. Beelds niche coverage on domestic crime and societal issues saw Beeld reach top-three status in 2012 and the paper has continued, since then, as a highly influential medium, said Theresa Lotter, Managing Director at Media Tenor SA.
City Press is the second most influential newspaper in SA and was commended for providing new coverage angles in the build-up to the release of the Public Protectors Nkandla report. What is heartening, is the increase in quotes for South African weekly newspapers as opposed to international print, which suggests that local media have taken back the lead on local stories, commented Lotter.
According to the latest TGI data released by Ask Afrika content marketing is key to securing consumers, credibility is central and messaging needs to be engaging and intelligent. The value of the credibility of Beeld and City Press is immeasurable to marketers, not only does it create a loyal readership but advertising in these publications instils trust in brands, said Ané Honiball, General Manager at Ads24.
