Launch into 2012 with family sandcastle building at Salt Rock beach from 2 January

24 Dec 2011

The holiday season is set to continue between 2-8 January at Salt Rock beach outside Durban and Table View beach in Cape Town when Total South Africa will host sandcastle building workshops throughout the week.

Professional sandcastle builders will be on hand to coach aspiring beach architects with prizes awarded daily to inspired designs.

The promotion forms part of the Total Summer campaign along with a full inland edutainment programme at the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria. “All our activities are created to include the whole family,” says Total South Africa marketing manager Reina Cullinan.

“The zoo’s programme focuses on conservation and family leisure while the sandcastle building programme celebrates one of holidaying’s most cherished beach pastimes.”

The sandcastle builders are all self-taught professionals drawn from local communities. “When we started researching the project, seeking castle artistes, we were amazed at the creative expertise housed in coastal areas. All talent was sourced from local areas,” says Cullinan.

Workshops will be held showcasing traditional sandcastle techniques as well as more innovative, African influenced sculptures of animals.

The Total Summer sandcastle workshops take place daily between 10am and 4pm at Salt Rock beach in KwaZulu Natal and Tableview beach in Cape Town.
