MTN Radio Awards - Creating A Framework For Radio Talent Development

Aside from recognising excellence and highlighting talent in the radio industry, the MTN Radio Awards have created a platform and template for the training and development of radio station staff.

“We’re assisting stations to use the awards categories and adjudication criteria as the basis of regular performance appraisals,” says MTN Radio Awards CEO Lance Rothschild. “By focusing on excellent work, stations encourage personnel to maintain high standards. This programme sets a standard for excellence and keeps a focus on maintaining a consistently high level of performance.”

Stations have the added benefit of creating a catalogue of excellent work, making it easier to source material for submission as entries for the MTN Radio Awards, whilst also having source material to reference for performance benchmarking.

From MTN’s perspective, this programme is just further reinforcement of their commitment to the improvement of skills across the radio spectrum.

“The MTN Radio Awards is not just about a night where winners are celebrated and congratulated,” says Serame Taukobong, Chief Marketing Officer for MTN South Africa. “Through this initiative, the Awards have increased relevance to stations and ultimately contribute towards enriching the listeners’ experience.”
