Product of the Year extends entry deadline to 16 September 2013

31 Jul 2013

The South African subsidiary of Product of the Year, the world’s largest organization dedicated to recognising and rewarding innovation, has decided to extend its closing date due to numerous requests from some of South Africa’s largest companies.

The purpose of Product of the Year is to showcase the most innovative and useful new products on the market, saving shoppers time and money in making their selections. Manufacturers of the winning products can use the Product of the Year branding to increase awareness and sales.

To give manufacturers extra time to enter their innovative products, the deadline for entries has been extended until 16 September 2013. “We’ve had a great deal of interest not only from major manufacturers but also from smaller first-time entrants this year, so we’ve moved out the deadline to give them enough time to submit their entries as we want to showcase the best products in all categories,” says Preetesh Sewraj, managing director of Product of the Year - South Africa.

This brings the submission deadline very close to the next step in the process – the jury selection – but Sewraj believes that this is essential to give all companies the opportunity to be represented and judged.

This is the judging process for Product of the Year:

  1. Submit your product for judging before 16 September 2013. Initial entry is free, and open to all products launched in South Africa over the last 24 months that demonstrate a level of innovation.

  2. The jury selects the finalists that will go onto the next stage. Our jury is made up of experts from various fields, including manufacturing, marketing and journalism. Now it’s the public’s turn. They will determine the ultimate winners in the largest ever independent survey of its kind in South Africa. Nielsen, the world’s largest research agency, conducts research throughout South Africa with 5000 face-to-face interviews.

  3. Product of the Year Awards night – hundreds of guests gather to find out which products the public have voted as the winners in each category.

  4. For the next 12 months, the winners can promote their awards by using the Product of the Year logo on their packaging, promotions and advertising.
“The stand-out red Product of the Year stamp is recognized as a sign of quality by consumers all around the world,” says Sewraj. “The latest Nielsen Omnibus research has shown that 66% of South African consumers say that they are more likely to purchase a product that has the Product of the Year logo on it.“. This demonstrates the level of trust that the public has in the process and, ultimately, the results.”
