It was a very interesting year one turned out to be very positive for the Independent Agency Selection Company (IAS). The IAS added new packages to their product offering and has expanded business operations by opening a Cape Town office.
Four New Types Of Pitch Processes
IAS added four bespoke pitch approaches to suit every budget without comprising client and agency cohesion and cost effectiveness. They are: The Tissue Pitch, The Chemistry Pitch, Pitch in a Day and the No Pitch Pitch.
These provide more efficient pitch processes that companies and marketers can use to select the right advertising, marketing, communication, PR, digital and integrated agencies to suit their needs.
IAS Cape Town Opened
IAS expanded in 2014 to open a much needed office in Cape Town to support the growing demand by agencies that operate in the Mother city.
Streamlined Online TLC
The TLC offering has become very popular and there is a growing number of clients using this service as part of their strategic planning. The IAS TLC Programme was designed to help clients and agencies as an external facilitator, to evaluate current relationships by looking at a number of variables to streamline better analysis.
We expect growth to double in 2015. Another advantage is that IAS can also use it to assess developing trends across the industry.
Successful Series Of IAS Masterclass For Agencies
One of the IAS value- adds to its subscribing agencies is its series of regular Masterclasses which share innovation and industry-specific knowledge. IAS believes the popularity and rapid growth of its Masterclass programme during 2014 reflect the industrys rapid evolution, thirst for knowledge and the need for pace. Nine classes were conducted in Johannesburg and four in Cape Town during 2014. There is no doubt that Cape Town classes will increase during 2015 judging on the demand so far.
Marketers Master Class Programme
The IAS has developed a programme of eight master classes for marketers the first of which will take place in 2015. As a result of this development, the Institute of Marketing Management, the IMM, has decided to partner with the IAS in order to assist with delegate boosting and marketing. It is anticipated that this partnership will lead to a national series of programmes in South Africa and into Africa later.
Maintaining Relationships With Direct Mailers
Monthly Direct Mailers to marketers were a great success. The Direct Mailers included insights, trends, as well as advertising and marketing developments keeping marketers and advertisers up-to- date with consumer trends.
Ad Forum Summit (Brazil And New York)
Johanna Mc Dowel, IAS, MD was South Africas only representative at AdForum Worldwide Summit in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and USA (New York) in 2014. The Summit is a unique and highly focused event for the leading Agency Search consultants drawn from markets around the world to meet and interact with agency network CEO's and management teams from all disciplines. Held twice a year at global centres such as New York, London, Paris, Amsterdam or Shanghai, Ad Industry leaders share their perspectives and assess and forecast global advertising industry trends.
The Voice Of Radio
Johanna became a regular radio guest on Mix 93.8FM on Hein Kaisers show, Brand Sunday. Broadcast on Sunday mornings, the show recently moved to a Tuesday evening slot and Johanna has continued in her role as guest expert on marketing industry matters and trends.
The Power Of Speaking
Public speaking engagements were plentiful for the IAS. Johanna addressed Post-Graduate students at GIBS, WITS Business School and the University of Johannesburg about managing relationships and shared IAS research with students. She transformed her experience into nuggets of wisdom.
Amplified Use Of Twitter And Linkedin
IAS was also successful in communicating with the industry by using Twitter and Linkedin as preferred social media tools. LinkedIn is the favoured social media platform for B2B marketers at the current time while Twitter is an excellent tool to distribute news quickly.

A new award for Financial Mails AdFocus was sponsored by the IAS as well as the AdReviews New Business Award. It has always been IAS policy to support Awards in the industry to encourage and support entrepreneurial aptitude, commercial acumen, vision, ambition and drive to build a successful enterprise.
A Seasoned Judge
Johanna was also one of 40 communication specialists who adjudicated 174 entries at the PRISM Awards which recognise and reward organisations and individuals for excellence in public relations and communications, and outstanding contributions and achievements to raise the level of PR professionalism in South Africa.
First Pan African Search A Success
This year the IAS completed the first PAN African Agency data based search for a digital agency network. As the client is active in more than 30 countries in Africa, the needs were quite specific with the head office for Africa based in South Africa and the global head office in Luxemburg. A database management search for the same client was also conducted with great success.
